CHINA WORLD SUMMIT WING, BEIJING
OPENS CHI, THE SPA AT SHANGRI-LA
AS PART OF A LIFESTYLE SANCTUARY

"But here, at Shangri-La, all was in deep calm."
- from Lost Horizon by James Hilton

CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La makes its debut at China World Summit Wing, Beijing, on 16 August 2010. Located on level 77 of China World Tower, CHI is the highest spa retreat in Beijing and together with the Health Club and recreational areas on Level 78 creates a city-centre lifestyle sanctuary with unrivalled views of the capital below. CHI, The Spa at China World Summit Wing, Beijing is the first CHI to open in the city’s Central Business District following the success of CHI at Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing.

CHI features one of the most luxurious and largest private spa suites in the city and allows guests to indulge the senses, soothe the body and revitalise the spirit. At 480 square metres, the spa features four treatment rooms with infinity bathtubs and two corner massage rooms. Therapies are based on Chinese and Asian wellbeing rituals and traditions. Contemporary in design with Asian cultural elements, the spa features a soothing palette of colours and textures that combine to create an escape within its warm, welcoming interior. The treatment rooms feature hand-painted murals and soft, silk hand-embroidered tapestries.

The “Kesi” tapestry originates from ancient woven silk techniques. This specific piece was the inspiration for the hand-painted and hand-embroidered panels, creating the focal point in each of the spa treatment rooms. Carpets in the spa are custom designed and hand-tufted with Chinese patterns and illustrations in warm shades of crimson and gold.

The CHI concept is a collaboration of recognised experts in traditional Chinese medicine and authentic Asia healing philosophies. In traditional Chinese philosophy, chi represents the universal life force that governs well-being and personal vitality. Treatments and an exclusive product range are based on the Chinese philosophy of the five elements, in which metal, water, wood, fire and earth are in balance with the positive yang and negative yin energies within the body, to promote and maintain good health and vitality.

At China World Summit Wing, Beijing, CHI features over 29 specialised body, stone, massage and facial therapies including signature therapies like the CHI Balance and Hilot Massage to both relax and restore vitality,. The Mountain Tsampa Rub uses indigenous ingredients and techniques drawn from the ancient healing traditions of Asia. CHI also invites guests to indulge in memorable spa rituals lasting between two and a half to three and a half hours, including Oriental Fusion, Beijing Summit and Ultimate Indulgence.

The indulgent Amber Charm Facial was exclusively designed for China World Summit Wing, Beijing and uses the power of gemstones scientifically blended in the cream to treat skin with amber stones for optimum results. The facial is a real treat not only for the skin, but also for the well-being of soul, mind and body.

“CHI is our hotel group’s signature spa brand and we are pleased to be able to offer this at China World Summit Wing, Beijing. The spa will play a major role in positioning the hotel as a destination by itself within the city,” said Adrian Rudin, general manager of China World Summit Wing, Beijing.

The opening of CHI in China World Summit Wing, Beijing also marks the debut of the city’s highest lifestyle sanctuary: the hotel’s Health Club on level 78, which includes a Life Fitness-equipped gymnasium, a 25-metre indoor temperature-controlled infinity swimming pool overlooking the city and a relaxation and wellness lounge. Guests from the spa on level 77 may access the Health Club on level 78 via a staircase or a bubble lift that serves the two floors.

The Health Club features a collection of thermal suites designed to take guests on a “wet and dry, warm and cold temperature journey”. Consisting of a Finnish Sauna, an Herbal Steam Room, a Crystal Steam Room, a Laconium, an Ice Fountain and a Cocoon Pool, the suites facilitate a series of sensory experiences aimed towards detoxification and optimum wellness and relaxation.
