SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, TOKYO BECOMES SHANGRI-LA HOTELS AND RESORTS' FIRST PROPERTY IN JAPAN

The 200-room Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo opened on 2 March 2009 as Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts' first property in Japan. The hotel occupies the top 11 floors of the 37-floor, mixed-use Marunouchi Trust Tower Main building and is located adjacent, and with direct access, to Tokyo Station, which serves as the terminus of the Shinkansen bullet train network that extends nationwide as well as the city’s railway hub that connects local train and subway lines with regional services.

The uppermost floors of one of Tokyo’s newest skyscrapers offers guests of Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo dynamic cityscape views from one of Tokyo’s prime locations. The hotel’s 200 guestrooms all have a minimum space of 50 square metres and are among the largest in the city. Rooms reflect Japanese style and modernity with luxurious appointments and the latest audio-visual and communication facilities for the convenience of both leisure and business travellers.

From the spacious, 269–square-metre Presidential Suite located on the 36th floor that extends two floors in height, a luxurious feature pertaining to all suites, guests can see Mount Fuji, the symbol of Japan, on a clear day. Within walking distance of the hotel lie Tokyo’s renowned shopping district of Ginza, the Imperial Gardens, the redeveloped business and retail zone of Marunouchi and Tokyo’s historical and cultural epicentre of Nihonbashi. Simply put, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo is situated in the city’s most strategic location for both business and leisure use.

The hotel’s interior is designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates, based in Santa Monica, California, while Andre Fu of Hong Kong-based AFSO designed the Horizon Club lounge, Piacere, the signature Italian restaurant and Nadaman, the authentic Japanese kaiseki restaurant. Shangri-La’s unique brand DNA is exemplified through a grand staircase, elegant chandeliers and bold carpets, complemented by a distinct touch of Japanese influence. The chandelier illuminating the Lobby Lounge bar is exclusively handmade in the Czech Republic, each glass piece being intricately formed into the shape of a gingko leaf, the symbol of Tokyo. In addition, flower arrangements by Nicolai Bergmann, one of the most celebrated foreign artists in Japan for his contemporary floral designs, feature prominently within the hotel. Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo is the first hotel in the world to feature Bergmann’s works in all areas of the hotel, from public areas and guestrooms to wedding facilities.

Shangri-La’s distinguished Horizon Club services, restricted to Horizon Club guests, are also made available at Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo. Guests staying in the 37 Horizon Club rooms and suites can experience an elevated level of service, with exclusive amenities and privileges such as a dedicated concierge and express check-in and check-out. Furthermore, guests can enjoy full use of the private Horizon Club lounge, where they are treated to a wide selection of fine foods and beverages for breakfast, and cocktails in the evening.

CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La, featuring ancient Chinese and Himalayan healing therapies introduced in Japan for the first time, offers six treatment rooms, which are the largest self-contained spa suites in Tokyo. In addition to CHI signature treatments, guests can enjoy exclusive treatments only available in Tokyo, such as Kisetsu Body Wrap and Pearl Brightening Body Glow. A 20-metre swimming pool and a health club are adjacent to the spa and overlook the Imperial Palace.

Meanwhile, Heavenly Weddings at Shangri-La, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo’s exclusive, made-to-order wedding service, brings an unprecedented wedding experience to couples, their families and all their guests. Located on level 27 of the hotel, the highest level at which weddings with a view are hosted at luxury hotels in the city, the hotel’s wedding facilities include The Pavilion, a non-denominational chapel overlooking the city, as well as the Shangri-La Ballroom, designed for large reception parties of up to 200 guests and featuring panoramic views. A grand staircase, chandeliers and bold carpets provide excellent photographic opportunities. .

In August 2009, Shangri-La Hotel, Tokyo received the 2009 Best Business Hotel Award from Wallpaper and Fortune magazine in the USA.
